Hi there,

I´ve got two questions regarding the sentence below.

> 3 bin yıllık tarihiyle : the 3000-year old (event) ???
(probably the journalist doesn´t know that the modern
games started in 1896).

> olan : ??? olmak -> -an, but I can´t seem to get the exact
sense.

"3 bin yıllık tarihiyle dünyanın en büyük spor organizasyonu olan Yaz Olimpiyat Oyunları yarın Çin Halk Cumhuriyeti’nin başkenti Pekin’de başlıyor."

Overall this would translate as :

The Summer Olympic Games, the 3000-year old biggest sporting event of the world, starts tomorrow in the People´s Republic of China´s capital city, Beijing.

As learner, I find it sometimes very difficult to read articles as Turkish writers seem to write extra long descriptive sentences with little punctuation marks. I would really like your opinion on that.

thanks in advance for your help.

> "olan" means nearly "which" in the sentence. I know we can ignore which in English sometimes. For instance in your translation I think we can add which as the following:

The Summer Olympic Games which is the 3000-year old biggest sporting event of the world, starts tomorrow in the People´s Republic of China´s capital city, Beijing.

I think you expressed the meaning in your translation.

I hope I could explain a bit.
