I´ve tried to read through this extracts from a film review but I´m a bit stuck. I thank you in advance if someone can help.


1/Çocuk tiyatrosunda oyunculuk yapan Ali ve Can aynı evde yaşayan ve geçim sıkıntısı çeken iki kankadır.
2/En büyük hayalleri iyi birer oyuncu olup sinema filmlerinde yer almaktır.
3/Ama piyasada tek tanıdıkları kişi casting işleri yapan menajerleri Ceyda´dır.
4/Ali ve Can günün birinde davetli olmadıkları bir film tanıtım partisine giderler.

1/ Working as actors in children theater, Ali and Can are two (boys) living in the same house trying to make ends meet (´geçim sıkıntısı çeken´
++++++ couldn´t find exact meaning of çeken & kankadır

2/ They both have big dreams of finding a (real) job (yer) in big screen films and becoming good actors.

3/ But on the market, Ceydan is the person who konws all the managers in the casting business

4/ One day, Ali and Can go to a film presentation party to which they were invited.

 "Kanka" and " "kanki" are the short forms for  "kan kardeş or kan kan kardeşi" and "kankardeş or "kan kardeşi"="blood brother"

"geçim sıkıntısı çekmek" means "to have serious financial problems" so "geçim sıkıntısı çeken" means "who is having financial problems".

Geçim    = Livelihood.

Sıkıntı    = Boredom and also means "financial difficulty".

Çekmek = To suffer. (first meaning coming to the mind is "to pull" but here it means " to suffer".

Thanks for the ´kanka´ bit.

Hard to know and find if you´re a yabancı. Any help on the other part is welcome.

3/Ama piyasada tek tanıdıkları kişi casting işleri yapan menajerleri Ceyda´dır. (But the only person they knew in this market was their casting manager Ceyda.)

4/Ali ve Can günün birinde davetli olmadıkları bir film tanıtım partisine giderler. (Ali and Can one they attend to am movie´s gala which they were not invited.)

That really clarifies things. I wasn´t too far but your help is precious. Here are my suggestions on the English. Mostly there are the way the sentence is split and ordered. This is something more complex than plain vocabulary issues :

> I would translate ´almak´ as to get

In sentence 3, ´casting işleri yapan menajerleri´, why is ´menajer´ in the plural form in the original version ?

i have modified the sentence 3. if you read it again you will get the answer, why it is plural.

menajerleri = their manager.
