Maybe it has been asked before, but I couldn´t find it so therefor the question: What are your 5 favourites places/areas in Turkey? And in short, why?

My list:

1. Istanbul - a great city with many surprising places (and faces), a city I felt very comfortable

2. Sinop - great harbour restaurants with view at the Black Sea, the only Turkish fjord, nearby gorgeous waterfalls of Erfelik

3. Afyon area - beautiful restored karvanserais, historical sites at Arslankaya, endless white poppy fields, nearby Akşehir with the tomb of Nasreddin Hoca

4. Gaziantep - delicious pastries, a mosaic museum with stunning archeological sites

5. Dogubayazit area - the best well-kept palace, Işhak Paşa Saray, a nice hot spring, friendly people, (and my only Turkish love affair {#lang_emotions_shy}   )

no doubt: Numero Uno for me:  ISTANBUL

Edirne Selimiye Camii (Sinan)

Bursa (Ottoman Camii)

The unforgettable  wonderland of Cappadocia

Forget Antalya and Marmaris, a  béton Mecca totally overcrowded by European tourists

I haven´t been to enough cities to be able to make a choice as yet, but I´ve enjoyed all the places I´ve visited so far and this thread will help me decide where to visit.

Quoting Roswitha

And favorite cities outside Turkey?

That was already asked here: http://www.turkishclass.com/forumTitle_580  but as far as I know a topic completely about Turkish cities isn´t there.
