(I heard that Mevlana once said these seven things. Do you know if this quote is true? It would be nice to live like this, wouldn't it?)

For translation --

Mevlana once gave this advice,

In generosity and helping others, be like a river...
In compassion and grace be like the sun...
In concealing others faults be like the night...
In anger and fury be like the dead...
In modesty and humility be like the earth...
In tolerance be like the sea...
Either exist as you are or be as you look...

Hey.....thanks for this, Kadir! One question: if I want to include "others" in the tranlation of the first line,

"In generosity and helping others be like a river/stream"

should I use ötekiler or ötekileri? It's a general thing, isn't it, that is, not helping a certain number or class of people but others in general? I'm wondering if ötekiler can stand alone in a sentence or if it needs the "i" at the end...

Take care.

Good morning, Kadir. I'm new to this forum with only two posts. I wonder if Helen's response to my last query (with her nice post about the Mevlana website) means that I'm knocked out of the system and won't hear from you about my "ötekiler", "ötekileri"? Acaba... :-S

when you talk about HELP(yardım etmek) in turkish it is generally understood as you help to another human so you can ommit that object "others".. and yes you can use ötekileri there.. but "diğerleri" seems much more suitable to me there
