The re-release online of ´Turkey’s Heart Ankara´ after almost 40 years has caught the attention of the press. However, the talk hasn’t really gone beyond the story of censorship. Is that all there is to this film?
nternet users in Turkey are no strangers to the word censorship. While major Web sites such as YouTube are being banned for hosting videos insulting Atatürk, a documentary showing Turkey´s founder that was censored for almost 40 years began streaming on the government´s Web site last week.
The newly re-released documentary, Turkey´s Heart Ankara, got so many hits in the past week that the Web site was temporarily unable to handle them.
This is not going to be the only film we pulled from the archives. We have a team here working on the films about Atatürk and Turkey and we will keep on broadcasting more works, said Ercan Kale, a press spokesman for the government.
