The number of businesses selling alcohol in Turkey decreased by 12.6 percent over the past three years, a recent report has revealed.
The report shows that between 2005 and 2008 the number of locations selling alcohol decreased from 58,649 to 51,268. “Compared to the general market, the decrease should have been 2.3 percent, but it is almost 13 percent,” said officials at the Nielsen International Measurement Service.

Recently, there were protests about the ban in Istanbul´s Kadıköy district when Beltur, a company under the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, took over the management of Kadıköy´s port and imposed a ban on the consumption of alcohol around the port.
