 This is my attempt.  I am a student not a native speaker.

"Turned toward the past with (my wishs) rather than to live,   turned to the future possibilities of life I prefer."

I think this is the "flavor" of it.

Rather than living lookng towards the past, with "if only"s, I prefer to live looking towards the future with "maybe"s.
