A court in Istanbul is expected to rule Thursday whether a British artist insulted the prime minister by depicting him as a dog in his artwork.
Michael Dickinson faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison on charges of insulting Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in collages he displayed two years ago.
The case has raised questions about Turkey´s human rights record and the country´s ability to respect freedom of expression. The European Union has made improved rights and freedoms one of its conditions for accepting Turkey into the 27-member group.
A verdict was expected later Thursday, in the fourth hearing of the trial, Dickinson said.
