Is it true that in Turkey it is forbidden to use mobile phone in the buses? {#lang_emotions_unsure}

yes it`s true. you see how fascist these Turks are, they don`t even allow people to use cell phones on busses.

seriously, what is so weird about this that made you say "ohaa"?

On what type of buses are mobiles prohibited? I´ve never seen a Turk turn down the chance of sharing their conversation loudly with the whole bus {#lang_emotions_satisfied_nod}

Actually cell phones are not only affect ABS, but may cause problem for busses´ electronic brains. And brake system may failure.

Recently there was an accident caused by cell phone. The bus could not stop and crash a man. Unfortunately, he died. It only affects green busses, not the red ones. And also coaches.

Another example, a few years ago some of my friends and I were travelling. One of them was playing with his cell phone, that means phone was on. While going, it become very hot. It was summer but that was not normal. We realized that radiators were working in the coach :S We asked host whether or not they heat it up. He said no, it´s not working. And told my friend to turn his phone off. After a pause, driver announced "Please turn of your cell phones, or electronic brain may failure. That´s why radiators were heating short before".

Nice to have read Faruks explanation, I always thought it was a secret way to force people to be a little silent in the bus. Here in the Netherlands its not prohibited and sometimes it really drives me crazy.

Tamikidadkika, its weird in the sense that I, for one, have not seen such a rule in any country at any type of bus yet. But I´m really glad it exists, think of only the tourincar companies, if you travel 10 hours in bus and people are allowed to make calls (like in Rahathat, though people actually dont use their phones much there).

Never thought there was a real reason behind it! Generally I switch it off,other times when I need specific directions or expcet a big news I turn it silent. In Ýzmir they are rather strict about it, you get ugly looks from elderly people.

As for the color of the buses, all buses in Ýzmir are red basically and it is all forbidden in them. Some are soo old that I wonder if they are modern enough to have ABS

And what is a coach?

Strange, I used to wonder why they had notices on the coaches prohibiting the use of mobile phones! As mentioned above, I also thought it was a way to reduce unnecessary chatter.

I wonder why in busses where using a mobile phone is forbidden, the most frequent users are the driver (while driving!) and the conductor....

And what is a coach?

 A coach is a posh bus!  Coaches are not used for a normal bus service but for longer distance travel. One with toilet probably and doors at the front and the middle and very comfortable seats.  Normally there are plenty of coaches at the airport waiting to take tourists to their destinations.

I have never heard of cell phones interferring with ABS before.  Is it a different type of ABS system than we have in our cars then?

It is pretty much accepted that it is safe to use phones on planes and in hospitals now.  Maybe some things are best not clarified though - the thought of someone shouting "I AM ON THE PLANE" in the seat behind me, or having to listen to endless "amusing" ringtones while you are laying in your hospital bed, is good enough reason to ban them
