I am aware that Muslim´s don´t celebrate Christmas, but I am sending my boyfriend a small gift (becasue I do celebrate Christmas!) together with a card for the family. Do you think this is inappropriate? I have yet to meet his family, although they know all about me etc. Do you think they would be offended? The card I have is just a simple card with the message "Merry Christmas to All the Family". Inside I woul like to write something along the lines of "Best Wishes for Christmas and The New Year to all the Yýldýrým family - love from Miriam and Lucy"

Could someone translate that for me please, and maybe give me your opinion. I don´t want to offend them nor embarrass myself. Thanks

Sending just happy new Year wishes would be more apropriated in my viewpoint since it has no sense to send a Christmas card or gift to someone who doesnt celebrates it.

I don´t see why that should be offensive nor emarrassing, although "Happy New Year" is probably more relevant. You send what you want and if they are offended that´s their problem. It´s a nice jesture that should be appreciated, they shouldn´t be upset.

Thank you everyone. Yes, it is really just a gesture. I see nothing wrong in sharing a little of each others culture. I was invited to a Ramazan dinner last month and I went. I was the only English person there but I went really just to show I was willing to learn and share. I am Catholic and don´t celebrate Ramazan - but I went. Anyway, they are my views and I just didn´t want to upset anyone by doing anything unacceptable. Çok teþekkür ederim

I think it would be nice if you sent Christmas wishes as well. After all, if they try to include you in their customs, you could show them a little bit of ´your world´ as well.

I am not a Christian, but I still send my friends both in the Netherlands and in Turkey Christmas cards, as for me it is a cultural feature that I was brought up with in an unreligious but English family. Nobody has been offended, actually they all quite liked it. And mind you! There´s Christmas trees and lighted reindeers on big buildings in the big cities. But Ive heard they are seen more as new years decorations than that they have got anything to do with Christmas
