HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICKEY MOUSE

{#lang_emotions_bigsmile}Disney´s Mickey Mouse turns 80 with a rival

International celebrity Mickey Mouse made his screen debut on 18 Nov 1928 as star of the first synchronized sound cartoon, "Steamboat Willie." In the 1930s he played everything from fireman to giant killer, cowboy to inventor, detective to plumber in his 120 short cartoons. Walt Disney´s success is attributed largely to Mickey´s. Eighty years on another cartoon character could eclipse Mickey as top rodent, while a lookalike is encouraging a generation of children in the Middle East into militancy.

Several reviewers have pointed out that it is surprising, given that the wholesome tales of Mickey Mouse and friends don’t have the same relevance for a generation raised on violent video games, another good rodent soul, Remy, is today´s -- and very likely tomorrow´s -- star rodent. A rat and the star of the animated feature Ratatouille, he is a gourmet chef whose talents are hidden under another character´s toque-blanche.

It is unlikely to surprise anyone that a generation of children raised in the mileau of Middle East violence would take to Mickey´s lookalike, Farfur. This mouse is the star of a Hamas television program "Tomorrow´s Pioneers," and he urges children to fight against Israel. The program teaches world Islamic domination, anti-Semitism and violence. The program literally killed of the character in the final program of the series in June. The episode ended when an Israeli investigator tried to force Farfur to give up the key and the papers that his grandfather had given him. When Farfur refused, the Israeli beat the rat to death. The program has drawn international outrage.

Ratatouille, meanwhile, has attracted some Oscar buzz. If Remy helps Ratatouille creator Brad Bird win an Academy Award, he will be doing what Mickey did for Walt Disney in 1932. Jul/07

Well now that you mention it, I never found Micky Mouse particularly sweet, cute or funny!!  Wholesome?  Who knows what he and Minnie got up to

He was probably a nationalist.  And most likely racist too
