I was told by someone that I had been so rude by saying :
istiyorum bilmek
As you can see it is direct English translation of "I want to know". Could someone pls explain. Thank you.

I want to know <==> Bilmek istiyorum
It is not rude to say "Bilmek istiyorum". I think someone made a joke to you.

MCO,
Apparently bilmek istiyorum is the correct saying. What I have said is the other way round, istiyorum bilmek. Any difference ?
Quoting MCO: I want to know <==> Bilmek istiyorum

"İstiyorum bilmek" and "Bilmek istiyorum" are no different in meaning. Both of them mean "I want to know". On the other hand, the correct one is "bilmek istiyorum" according to the turkish grammar rules. "istiyorum bilmek" just a sentence that none of the good turkish speakers and natives would use. Maybe your friend wanted to say that it's wrong usage or it sounds funny.

So how would the good Turkish speakers / natives say 'I want to know' It is nice to get it right

BİLMEK İSTİYORUM
or if you wanna be really polite you can say,
"may i want to know"= "bilmek isteyebilir miyim"
but this is more uncommon and wouldnt really be used
