How did my husband and I first meet?
Ãyi hatýrlýyorum, on sekiz yaþýndaydým.
I remember well, I was sixteen.
En iyi arkadaþým Özlem´le birlikte bir partiye gittik.
My best friend, Özlem, and I went to a party together.
Ãçeri girdik.
We went inside.
Herkes Özlem´e selam verdi, çünkü orada onun birçok arkadaþý vardý.
Everyone greeted Özlem, because a lot of people there were his friends.
Özlem uzun boylu, güzel ve cana yakýn bir kýzdý.
Özlem was a tall, pretty and very close friend.
Ben ise ufak tefek, hafif toplu ve oldukça sýkýlgandým; üstelik pek de güzel deðildim.
I was small, really skinny and rather shy; plus I wasn´t very beautiful.
Partide bütün gençler Özlem´le dans etmek istedi.
At the party, all of the guys wanted to dance with Özlem.
Ben ise bir kenarda oturdum.
I just stood there in an isolated spot.
Hiç kimse beni dansa kaldýrmadý.
No one asked me to dance.
Bu sýrada Özlem arkadaþlarýndan birinin yanýna gitti ve beni iþaret etti, bir þeyler söyledi.
At this point, Özlem went with one of her friends, pointed me out, and said something.
Biraz sonra o genç yanýma geldi ve beni dansa davet etti.
A litte later that guy came over an invited me to dance.
Ben utandým ve teklifini kabul etmedim, ama o genç çok ýsrar etti.
I to shy and didn´t accept his offer, but he insisted.
Biraz dans ettik.
We danced a little.
Adý Ali´ydi, benimle ayný yaþtaydý ve gerçekten çok kibar bir gençti.
His name was Ali, he was the same age as me, and he was a very nice guy.
Danstan sonra bana "Yarýn ne yapýyorsun, Meral? Meþgul musun?" dedi.
After the dance he said to me, "What are you doing tomorrow, Meral? Are you busy?"
Ben de " Hiçbir iþim yok." dedim.
Then I said, "I don´t have to work."
Beni sinemaya davet etti, ben de memnuniyetle kabul ettim.
He invited me to the movies, and I gladly accepted.
Daha sonra Ali ve ben çok iyi anlaþtýk.
Later, Ali and I came to understand eachother very well.
Tam iki yýl sonra bana evlenme teklif etti.
Exactly two years later he proposed to me.
Benim doðum günümde, yani 12 Mart´ta evlendik.
We got married on my birthday, so on the 12th of March.
Þimdi üç çocuðmuz var ve çok mutlu bir aileyiz.
Now, we have three children and are a very happy family.
Sýk sýk Özlem´le buluþuyoruz, o hala benim en iyi arkadaþým.
Özlem and I often meet, she is still my best friend.
Özlem zaman zaman bana "O akþam iyi ki Ali´yi senin yanýna gönderdim ve sen de onun teflifini kabul ettin, deðil mi?" diyor.
From time to time, Özlem says to me, "It´s good that I sent Ali over to you that evening, and that you accepted his invitation, isn´t it?"
Özlem çok haklý.
Özlem is very right.
