I have some questions about using the following construction: fiil + dik + iyelik eki + için.

In the book I´m using, the following example was given in terms of explanation:

Hastayým. Okula gidemiyorum. = Hasta olduðum için okula gidemiyorum.

I´m assuming it means that because of being sick I can´t go to school.

My questions is, how to use this structure to talk about things that happened in the past? Using the above example, how would one say: "I couldn´t go to school yesterday because I was sick." Would it be: "Dün hasta olduðum için okula gidemedim."? What about in the future tense? "Yarýn hasta olduðum için okula gidemeyeceðim"? Is that correct? Will the first part of the sentence change? Or is that something else altogether?

Could someone provide some more examples of sentences with this structure?

Hasta olduðum için ödevimi bitiremedim:

I couldn´t finish my homework because (-için) I (-um) was (-duk -->  -duð) sick.

Ýngiliz olduðun için seninle evlenemem

I can´t marry you because (-için) you (-un) are (-duk -->  -duð) English.

Ayýn 5. haftasonuna denk geleceði için o gün ofiste olmayacaðým.

Because (için) the 5th (it: -i) is (future: -ecek --> eceð) on the weekend I will not be in the office.

Sevgilim bana para yollamayacaðý için annem ameliyat olamayacak.

Because (için) my girlfriend (she: -ý) will (future: -acak --> acað) not (-ma-) send me money, my mum will not be able to have her operation.

The time depends on the main clause´s time. Can be past or present. It´s more like gerund in English.

Being sick yesterday, I couldn´t go to school.

Being sick today, I will not be able to go to school.

Hasta olduðum için dün okula gidemedim.

Hasta olduðum için bugün okula gidemeyeceðim.

Hasta olduðum için yarýn okula gidemeyeceðim. (yes this is a correct sentence)

Being sick (today, seems like) tomorrow I will not be able to go to school.

"Hasta olacaðým için yarýn okula gidemeyeceðim." and "Hasta olduðum için yarýn okula gidemeyeceðim." are both correct, but there is a difference.

According to first sentence, you are guessing that you will be sick tomorrow, maybe there are some symptoms. But you are not sick yet. However, second sentence shows that you are already sick, and since you will continue to be sick tomorrow you won´t be able to go to school.

So, if I´m planning to take a, erm, "sick" day at work, I could say "Hasta olacaðým için yarýn iþe gidemeyeceðim"
