The new classes have not started yet but, I am going though the lessons slowly by myself and I am hoping someone can clarify something form me.
In the below example:
araba-in -> araba-n-ýn -> arabanýn (of the car, the car´s) konu-in -> konu-n-un -> konunun (of the topic)
I understand what the addition of ---in does and why it changes form (due to vowel harmony)What I do not understand is why the addition of the extra "n" between the actual noun and the sufix "...in"
Here is my reply to your questions.
araba = car
benim arabam =my car araba+m =my car arabam
so you don´t have to use benim =my because -m suffix already means my
senin araban =your car araba+n araban
-n here is the suffix for your
In Turkish,possessive adjectives are used like this :
Possessive+noun+possessive suffixes ex; Benim araba+m
vowel+suffix example; car= araba
at the end there´s the vowel a ,so the suffixes can be;
my (-m) , your (-n), his/her/its (-sý ) , our (-mýz), your(-nýz) their (-larý)
for the nouns ending with the vowels : a e ý i o ö u ü the suffixes have changes.
cat =kedi My cat =Benim kedi+m Benim kedim (or kedim is enough)
kedi finishes with the vowel i let´s see the differences
Benim kedi+m
Senin kedi+n
Onun kedi+si
Bizim kedi+miz (bizlerin kedi+si)
Sizin kedi+niz (sizlerin kedi+leri)
Onlarýn kedi+si (Onlarýn kedi+leri)
-ler -lar plural (sometimes when they are added to nouns,they give more importance to the thing or the person mentioned; even much more respect)
Apostrophe "s -the possessive case.
the car´s =araba+nýn arabanýn
(the noun ends with a so the suffix is -nýn)
the subject´s = konu+nun konunun
(the noun ends with u so the suffix is -nun
the house´s =ev+in evin
(only -in is the suffix here because ev finishes with a consonant
the villager´s = köylü+nün köylünün
(the noun ends with ü so the suffix is -nün)
