Which verbs do we use with firsat

eg. Can I say:-

As we have no visitors this week we should take this opportunity to paint the spare room?

Bu haftada hiç misafýrýmýz yok olmak için bu fýrsattan misafir (yedek) odasýný boyalým mý?

May I take this opportunity to thank you all for coming?

Hepsiniz geldiðinizi için teþekkur etmeðe bu firsat alayým mý?

When his father had left the house he took the first opportunity to use the car.

Babsý evden cýkmýþken (???) arabayý kulanmasý ilk firsatý aldý.

I am sure there are many gramatical errors, but the more the merrier, that´s how we all learn.{#lang_emotions_bigsmile}

Hepinize geldiðiniz için teþekkür etme fýrsatýný kullanabilir miyim?

Babasý evden çýkýnca, arabayý ilk kez kullanma fýrsatýný buldu.

You can use in this cases, but as you see I changed the verbs, because you cannot use it with all verbs.

here are some examples:

fýrsat(ýný) beklemek

fýrsat bulmak

fýrsat çýkmak

fýrsat yakalamak

fýrsatý kaçýrmak

fýrsattan yararlanmak/ fýrsattan istifade etmek

fýrsat vermek

fýrsat kollamak

fýrsatý kullanmak

fýrsat tanýmak

etc

Thankyou for your reply, most helpful.  Would it be possible for you to post the translations of the verbs we use with firsat?  I know we could go through the dictionary but believe me I found looking through the old posts so helpful when I first started to study Turkish (infact I spent about three months just studying old threads and learnt more from them than from any book I had ever read and always reccomend this site to all the new arrivals to our town because of this)

Is the use of ´yok olmak için´ instead of ´olmadýðýndan´ incorrect or just clumsy?

and are the examples in italics more suitable or just equally acceptable alternatives?

Many thanks

"yok olmak için" is incorrect, you could say "yok olduðu için" but then you have to omit "hiç" and still that´s a little bit clumsy (Bu hafta misafirimiz yok olduðu için...)

By the way if you want to use "için", you could also say "bu hafta hiç misafirimiz olmadýðý için..."

The examples in italics are equally acceptable.

We don´t use the word "istifade" alone a lot, but it is usually used with the word fýrsat, and I wanted to show it.

I want to explain this one with an example= Aylarca iþsiz gezdikten sonra, çok iyi bir iþ fýrsatý çýkmýþtý. After being unemployed for several months,  a very god job opportunity appeared.

fýrsattan istifade etmek (to take advantage of an opportunity)

fýrsatý kaçýrmak (to miss an opportunity)

fýrsat kollamak (to watch or be on the lookout for an opportunity)

fýrsat tanýmak (to provide an opportunity)
