I don´t know if I´d agree with that. I guess it depends on what you´re used to. When I went to the UK I had serious problems understanding the people, even on TV. Which is odd, I have no problem understanding the actors in British movies. To me the American pronounciation seems more crisp, unless you speak to somebody from the South or somebody speaking "ebonics". I used to love the British accent, I still do in many ways, although it increasingly sounds to me as if the person speaking had a few spoonfulls of mashed potatoes in his or her mouth .

I think if you go to Google and search for "american accent training" you´ll find many resources.
And I agree with previous suggestion too, watching movies and imitating people who use it would probably help as well.

Unfortunately apparantly I don´t need no training - Though I´m British I sometimes sound American apparantly and not-one of my friends/family has trouble pointing that out
I have to agree that sometimes American accent is easier to listen to, mainly because when I speak with my "american accent" many of my foreign friends say it´s easier for them to understand me than most people they know that are British.
As for American accent training here is a site that looks very good, I only looked at it briefly but it seems to cover alot.
http://www.americanaccent.com/
P.S. I didn´t look to see what type of American accent training it gives out as Americans have more than on accent, southern accent which is more on the high pitched level where as New York is on the Lower Pitched level.
