Ey Turkice bilenler, ey cemaat

I still seem to find coping with the Aorist tense a bit confusing.

We did not come >  Gel-me-y-iz  [OK?] ;      We couldn´t come  > Gel-e-me-yiz  [OK?]

So what is the difference between ´Gelemeyiz´ & ´gelemedik´ ?

Sayin ´gencturk´ explained it to [

we did not come - gelmedik

we couldn´t come - gelemedik - we can not come - gelemeyiz

gelmedik - it means we decided not to go and we did not want to go, and we did not go

gelemeyiz - it means we are not available, no matter if we want or not, and we will not come

gelemedik - we wanted to come, and we were ready to come, but something unexpected happened and we did not come.

Does it help?

Thanks Merih, you were quick off the mark!!  Unbelievable.  Yes it helps a lot > but if a ´beginner´ interchanges them, is it liable to cause a great deal of offence [I fear] > or am I asking a stupid question?

It will not offend but confuse.. like you promised someone to come.. then you just say we didn´t come sounding a bit like you did it on purpose... but most of the people will realise that you are not a native.. they will be fine. Don´t worry

Thanks again.  I pridefully admit that by looking at my appearance no Turk would know that Iam a ´yabanci´ >> till I open my mouth, of course.

I think I´ll carry a permanent sign around my neck, apologising in advance to any offence caused!!

Teþekkur ederim.
