Ey Turkice bilenler, ey cemaat

I still seem to find coping with the Aorist tense a bit confusing. 

We did not come >  Gel-me-y-iz  [OK?] ;      We couldn´t come  > Gel-e-me-yiz  [OK?]

So what is the difference between ´Gelemeyiz´ & ´Gelemedik´ ?  ´Uyuyamayiz´ & ´Uyuyamadik´? etc.

Sayin ´gencturk´ explained it to me [çok eskilerde] ... and I seemd happy at the time.  But now I am confused and hate myself.  Can someone rid me of this ´self deprication´, please?
