Yet another question.

My apologies for posting multiple questions today - it´s just I´m going down the sentences on this link http://www.birlikteforum.com/forum/paylasim_alani/ingilizce_en_cok_kullanilan_2600_cumle-t4592.0.html (1 page down, 36 to go) and trying to translate from English to Turkish to see if I get the same result. Every now and then there´s something that just makes me wonder.

So I have another questions, more like a request for somebody to check my train of thought here.

"Are we can be friend? Arkadaþ olalým mý?"

Obviously the English translation on the website is gramatically wrong, I´m assuming it should be "Can we be friends" - if so, wouldn´t the Turkish translation be "Arkadaþlar olabilecek miyiz?" - I´m thinking "Arkadaþlar olalým mý" is more like "Let´s be friends, shall we?" - and am I correct in thinking this should be plural (arkadaþlar instead of arkadaþ)?

Thank you.

obviously English sentence is false

Arkadaþ olalým mý? => shall we be friends?

you cannot use plural in turkish here. like you cannot say "I want 10 apples" "10 elmalar istiyorum" but you must say "10 elma istiyorum."

Thank you very much Dilliduduk.

I understand that with numerals in Turkish you use singular nouns. I´m not sure why in this case it would be singular, but I´ll take your word for it .

So, would the sentence "Arkadaþ olabilecek miyiz?" be ok to use here as well?

 Because the verb is arkadaþ olmak.. that´s why you can not say arkadaþlar olalým.

Awwww, so that´s what it is, I thought arkadaþ and olmak are considered separate. Cool, thanks. {#lang_emotions_flowers}

yes but it isn´t specific to arkadaþ :S

you also say "kardeþ olalým", "sevgili olalým", etc.

Oh cool, so it looks like the formula would be "singular noun+olmak" for "to be something".

Thanks Dilliduduk.
