I am sure it depends how much time and work you put into learning.

Hi,

There are so many things that affect how quickly you learn.

No-one can give you an accurate answer because there are too many variables.

Knowing Arabic and Persian will help with your Turkish vocabulary, as there are some common words.

How much time per week can you devote to learning?

Knowing someone who speaks Turkish, (and can help you with pronunciation and answering questions), will help you learn quicker.

Formal courses, where you can speak with your teacher, will also help you learn faster.

Spending time in Turkey will also help you to learn.

Watching Turkish TV and news will also help, once you know more than basics.

Learning from books, cds and on the net will not test your speaking skills, and there is no one to correct your pronunciation.

You might get a basic understanding of Turkish this way, but that is only half of the skill required.

I have been learning Turkish for more than 2 years, don´t have easy access to a Turkish speaker, have taken formal lessons, and I still consider myself a beginner.

We all have to be "hard workers" to keep up our enthusiasm to learn!

Why do you have to learn Turkish? Job? Girlfriend? Wife?

What do you mean by a "medium level" of Turkish language skills?

My guess is that 3-5 years of study, and regular interaction with a native speaking Turk, would get your skills to a reasonable base level.

Good luck with your studies Yasser!

i have to learn turkish because of a girlfriend whom i want to marry

acceptable level is the level that allows me to comunicate and pass an idea

i do not want to make a speach or write a book!

the only good thing is i have time to learn ( about 3-4 years)

and i have a native speaker !

thx again
