Here´s a sentence I´m trying to understand.

Özelikle ciddi rahatsýzlýklarda erken teþhisin hayat kurtardýðý cümlesi dikkatini çekti.

I want to translate it as: The statement, that early diagnosis is life-saving especially in serious illness (discomfort), caught his attention.

And, traditionally, I´m a bit (read: a lot) challenged by lack of punctuation marks. {#lang_emotions_head_bang}

So my questions are:

- Does "teþhisin" go with "cümlesi" or "kurtardýðý"?

Özelikle ciddi rahatsýzlýklarda erken teþhisin hayat kurtardýðý cümlesi dikkatini çekti.

or

Özelikle ciddi rahatsýzlýklarda erken teþhisin hayat kurtardýðý cümlesi dikkatini çekti.

- If it goes with "cümlesi", what is the "ý" ending on "kurtardýðý" for?

- If it goes with "kurtardýðý", what is the "si" ending on "cümlesi" for?

I would appreciate if somebody could enlighten me on that.

Thank you.

First of all, your translation is correct

it goes with "kurtardýðý"

let´s see this with questions and answers:

Özelikle ciddi rahatsýzlýklarda erken teþhisin hayat kurtardýðý cümlesi dikkatini çekti.

Ne dikkatini çekti?

"Özelikle ciddi rahatsýzlýklarda erken teþhisin hayat kurtardýðý cümlesi" dikkatini çekti.

                                    subject                                                            verb

Hangi cümle?

"Özelikle ciddi rahatsýzlýklarda erken teþhisin hayat kurtardýðý" cümlesi.

"si" after cümle is due to the thing in the quotation marks.

"cümlesi" = The phrase that ....

The other -in (teþhisin) and -ý (kurtardýðý) have nothing to do with "cümlesi".

Furthermore, if you take out "cümlesi", you can still have a logical sentence.

"Özelikle ciddi rahatsýzlýklarda erken teþhisin hayat kurtardýðý dikkatini çekti"

It´s used where there are two small phrases in one phrase (two verbs and two subjects/objects).

Özellikle ciddi rahatsýzlýklarda erken teþhis hayat kurtarýr. (erken teþhis = subject)

(Bu) dikkatini çekti. (it caught his attention).

When we make the first sentence the second one´s subject, we make changes and add -in suffix to the subject of the small phrase which becomes altogether the subject of the whole big phrase. The verb takes -dýðý suffix. In this case, it´s -dýðý because "erken teþhis" is third singular person.

-dýðým

-dýðýn

-dýðý

-dýðýmýz

-dýðýnýz

-dýklarý

Thank you both SOOOOOOO very much. {#lang_emotions_flowers}

I think this one was a bit too advanced for my level, but on the other hand, maybe that´s a good thing, one has to venture into new territory sometimes.

That sentence was from an exercise in "Gökküþaðý Türkçe", which is really great, I love that book, but the listening exercises seem so much more advanced grammar and vocabulary-wise than the rest of the chapter - .and it drives me crazy if I can´t figure out why something is the way it is.

Your explanations were wonderful. Thanks again.

I´m sure I´ll be back with more he he he.
