When do we use only kendi, and when can we also use kendi kendine ?

Example,

Ayþe kendini dev aynasunda görüyor.

Kendi kendini banyo yapmazsýn, daha çok küçüksün.

Ý have been told that in the first its better to use kendi and in the second its better to use kendi kendini.

But actually i cant get why or how can i decide which to use.

Any help here is very much appreciated.

the first one is "herself" and second one is "by yourself"; that´s the difference.

Ayþe sees herself in the magnifying mirror ( just a literal translation, I don´t think such an idiom exists in English)

You cannot have a bath by yourself, you are still too young.

In the first one it is the object, it is what/who you see. (Ne görüyor? - Kendini görüyor)

In the second one it is how you do it. ( Nasýl yapamazsýn - kendi kendine yapamazsýn)

More examples:

He was speaking to himself. Kendi kendine konuþuyordu.

She bought a dress for herself. Kendine bir elbise aldý. ( It is possible to say "kendi kendine elbise aldý", this only implies she made also the "buying" action alone.)

etc.

I don´t think this was very explanatory but I hope helps a little.

 Actually not it wasnt.

Ý understand the forms of kendi..

My question was when we use kendini, kendimizi...etc  alone and when do we add the kendi to it ?

Ayþe kendini dev aynasunda görüyor. Could it be kendi kendini here ?

Kendi kendini banyo yapmazsýn, daha çok küçüksün. could it be just kendini here ?

So it was very much helpful actually

it´s name is "dönüþlülük zamiri". dönüþ means turning. the act a person do turns and affects that person (himself - herself).

Ohhhh, Thank you very much cynic for the examples, they take us close to reality by knowing actually how can we use them in different situations.

Thank you zwilling for the edition too

First sentence can be:

* Ayþe kendini dev aynasýnda görüyor.

or

* Ayþe kendisini dev aynasýnda görüyor.

(Both forms sound same to me as a native speaker)

Second sentence is wrong. It must be:

* Kendi kendine banyo yapamazsýn, daha çok küçüksün.

or

* Kendin banyo yapamazsýn, daha çok küçüksün.

(Both forms sound same to me as a native speaker)
