As far as I understand (I´m a learner too, so wait for additional explanations), the word conveys the meaning of "and so forth", "and the like", "or so".

I´ve seen it in the Teach Yourself Beginner´s Turkish" in such sentences like (I hope I remember correctly):

Otel uzak mý? Biraz, kirk dakika falan.

Is the hotel far? A little, 40 minutes or so.

Baharat almak istiyorum. Kimyon, biber, falan.

I want to buy spices. Cumin, pepper, and the like.

 its a bit like our blah blah thing ,when you are telling somebody about things and you cant be bothered to go into too much detail as the person tends to know what you are talking about ,its means like  and so on ,such and such, this and that.

 It means something like "yada yada" made famous on the American TV comedy Seinfeld.

(Oops  "yada" is actually Turkish!){#lang_emotions_ty_ty}

Herkese teþekkür ederim

So it can be placed anywhere in a sentence can it?

I guess it depends on what you want to say. If you place it before a noun, it´d mean something as "such and such" or "so and so", for example: "falan yerde, falan saatte, falan tarihde" - "in such and such place, at such and such hour, on such and such date". If you place it at the end, it´d be more like: "etc, and so forth, and so on, and the like" (if you place it after some items), or "bla bla bla". If you use it with quantities it´d mean "or so" as in "I waited for her 10 minutes or so" - "On dakika falan onu bekledim."

I´m hoping some native speakers will give some more examples here.
