The funny thing is some Turks still find tricky ways to link onto Youtube.com. The site is only banned from those who haven´t figured out how to fool the government. lol! 

I´ve only really heard rumors about it, but most of them say that the Turkish government has blocked it due to either anti-Ataturk videos or videos accusing Turkey of the Armenian genocide.  Either way, Turkey asked them to take them down, which I believe Youtube complied several times (hence the reason it only went down for several weeks at a time before finally being completely blocked), then got tired of it and told the Turkish government "no, we have freedom of speech here."

Of course, all of this could be here say.
