Darwin is not the first one to write about evolution, not even in the Western world.
That Darwin´s theory of evolution is so popular and pumped up in the West today is not without reason. Probably through no personal fault of Mr. Darwin himself (Darwin was a scientist, not a politician), his theory that only the strongest should and will survive is the political ideology behind the agressive Neocon philosophies/policies today.
Other well known scientists, like Lamarck, recognised the process of evolution long before Darwin was on the subject. Lamarck and Darwin definitely agreed on evolution, but differed on how this evolution is driven.
Today many enviromentalists and mollecular biologists also differ from Darwin, and are well aware that evolution is not the consequence of a bloody fight for survival, in which only the strongest prospere; but that it is rather a phenomena which involves cooperation and mutual support not only within a given species - but also between different species.
Three cheers for Mr. Maskawayh !
