Six people were killed and 93 others were injured Sunday in election-related violence when opponent candidates and their supporters clashed in seven separate provinces. (UPDATED)

In the small village of Akziyaret of the southeastern province of Sanliurfa a candidate for village headman was shot dead as supporters for rival candidates attacked each other, private Dogan News Agency (DHA) said. The fight left 12 other people wounded, the report added.  In a similar incident in Suruc town, also in Sanliurfa, 15 people were wounded as rival groups fired shots at each other. 

Two people were killed and ten others injured in election-related violence in two separate incidents in the Lice district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakir, Anatolian Agency reported.  In another clash between two groups in the Kagizman district of the eastern province of Kars over local headmen elections, one person was killed and five others injured, DHA said. One person was killed and five people were wounded in the Ercek district of the eastern province of Van, DHA reported. 

In the Incesu district of the central province of Kayseri, one person was killed and another was injured, Anatolian Agency reported. In the central-western province of Afyon supporters of rival village headmen candidates clashed in an incident that left six people injured.

In another incident in the eastern province of Agri, one person was injured when supporters of mayoral candidates from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and Democrat Party (DP) clashed.

More than 48 million registered voters will cast their ballots at 177,050 polling stations around the country to elect mayors as well as city and provincial assemblies for 81 city municipalities, including 16 metropolises
