I have problem with the use of ... pronoun ´O´ in the following sentence:-
(1) O kapýyý kapar kapamaz zil çaldý.
Problem: > If the translation is, >´As soon as the door shut, the bell rang´ > then ´O´ is not needed!!
> If the translation is, >´As soon as the door shut, he rang the bell´ > then it should be ´çaldýrdý´ ??!!
I have copied this sentence verbatim from a ´Well Known´ text book.
Can a native speaker explain please?

Actually there is a "comma" problem here. In such sentences where you may have confussions, a comma is necessary.
O kapýyý kapar kapamaz zil çaldý.
"As soon as he/she/it closed that door, the bell rang."
if there was a comma after "O",
O, kapýyý kapar kapamaz, zil çaldý.
"As soon as he/she/it closed the door, the bell rang."
O, kapýyý kapar kapamaz zili çaldý.
"As soon as he/she/it closed the door, he/she/it rang the bell."
for your translations:
"As soon as the door shut, the bell rang"
Kapý kapanýr kapanmaz, zil çaldý.
As soon as the door shut, he rang the bell
Kapý kapanýr kapanmaz, zili çaldý.
