I  found ´Teach Yourself Turkish´ to be of most help when I started learning. Teach Yourself Beginners´ Turkish´ doesn´t explain the grammar in as much detail but I do have that one as well.I think both are by the same authors.

Thanks Sonuda,

Anyone knows another one? This is the first time i will try learn a language alone, its being hard...

I recommend the TYS series that Sonunda said, and nothing else.

Colloquial Turkish is out of date and confusing

Turkish Grammar by Lewis is the academic textbook only of use to real researchers and totally off putting to beginners (the first chapter he teaches you the Turkish word for the line above the g in ð - I have found very few Turks who know what this is called!!)

Türkçe öðreniyoruz, Türkçe öðrenelim etc and other books published here in Turkey are not designed for self study, they are the text books for a language school.

Adým Adým Turkish vol 1 and 2 by Belgin Haným is still one of the most excellent books about, but not really possible to get it outside of turkey. We have it at the Greenhouse though.

End of advert.

Thanks for the book advice Marion. I bought Adým Adým Türkçe from your store recently, and agree that it is a good textbook. Lots of examples and exercises to build knowledge.

I also like the more modern Türkçe Öðrenelim series by Mehmet Hengirmen.

Mainly because of the pictures and variety of the excercises. Unfortunately as a learning textbook it is nowhere near as good, due to the lack of any English, and the learning structure is poor for Beginners.
