I recently heard Ey Gaziler and it sounds sooo amazing ... Could someone please help me translate it:

Ey gaziler yol göründü
Yine garip serime
Dağlar taşlar dayanamaz
Benim ah u zârıma.

Dün gece yâr hanesinde
Yastıcağım taş idi
Altım toprak; üstüm yaprak
Yine gönlüm hoş idi.

I know some of the words:
Ey Gaziler - O Defeaters of Kaafirs
göründü - (he) appeared
Dağlar - Mountains
taşlar - Stones
Gece - night
Yar - friend
Toprak - earth, soil
Yaprak - leaf (is -rak a suffix and if so what does it mean?)
Yine - again
gön - leather
hoş - pleasant

Could some1 please help?

Çok teşekkür ederim

Hello jehangir,

the text contains many words from Ottoman Turkish. Therefore it is not easy to understand even for us native speakers. Adding that my English still isnt good enough as I want I will try only the second half. Maybe someone else will try the whole.

...

Last night instead a lover
my pillow were the rocks
Under me the soil and above me the leafs
my soul was lost

And, here is my translation:

O defeaters of the enemy, it’s time to go
Once again for me, the poor and miserable
Neither stones nor mountains can bear
With my deep lamentation

Last night, at my lover’s place
My pillow was a stone
It was soil underneath my body; leaves above
Yet, my soul was so pleasant.

Hope this helps.

ali
