In this...the 21st century, how on earth do we ´loose´ a plane ????
The Twilight Zone
The accident took place in a turbulent area along the equator known as the Intertropical Convergence zone.
The zone has long been feared by sailors and aviators. In French, it is called the "pot au noir", meaning the murky cauldron.
According to meteorologist Pierre Lasnais, the zone "is prone to storms and lightning, but also to mini-cyclonic phenomena, which create extremely strong up currents, as well as hail stones that can be bigger than tennis-balls".
"It´s possible for a plane to be exposed to lightning, and at the same to be caught in an up current which can reach speeds of 200 km/h," he says.

I was wondering the same thing...my dad piloted his own plane when I was growing up. I talked to him about it. He said they all have flight patterns they follow, so the search and rescue should have been able to follow it´s flight pattern and locate where it last showed up on radar. Sounds like it went down in the water, but you would think there would be debree. However if it lost all electrical power and dropped out of the sky it could be at the bottom of the ocean by now. I´m wondering if in a few days they will find parts drifting in the water, this is sad................. With all the technology we have in this world you would think they would have found it by now.

There are robot submarines that can dive more than 6 miles beneath the sea. Nevertheless, these robot submarines usually have limited power and may not able to reach the black box through the debris surrounding it. Furthermore, if the plane had been fragmented before or after the entry into the sea, the vastness of the area that must be covered would be another hinderance.
Just remember how long it took for a team of fully equipped specialists to find the remains of Titanic. There are so many ship wrecks waiting to be discovered. I hope they can find it before the automatic distress signal of the plane stops.
I wonder if they will find the blackbox and voice recorder....

Fatma Ceren Necipoðlu, 37, was a Harpist from Turkey.
The Turkish passenger on board Air France flight 447 has been identified as 37 year-old Harpist Fatma Ceren Necipoðlu. She was on her way back to Turkey from Brazil where she recently held two recitals at the Fourth Rio Harp Festival. Necipoðlu was an academic at the Eskiþehir Anadolu University Conservatory and was one of the most respected harpists from Turkey.
Serla Balkarlý Can, an academic at the university, said Necipoðlu was invited to Rio de Janeiro to give a concert there. “We learned that she got on board the Air France plane to return to Turkey to give final exams to her students. It was very important to give a concert in Brazil. The plane crash is a tragedy. However, we are still hopeful that she is alive,” she said.
Erol Ãpekli, another academic, said Necipoðlu was a respected lecturer in her university. “We are all surprised and sad. She was a very successful artist we all adored. We are concerned about her whereabouts,” Ãpekli noted.
