I agree that it would be understood but if you want a correct version:

Belki postanede gümrük vergisi ödemeni bekledikleri için gömlekleri almadýn.

or I would even change "almak":

Belki postanede gümrük vergisi ödemeni bekledikleri için gömlekler eline geçmedi.
