Sende kalan eþyalarýmý giysimi kitaplarýmý melihinkileri özellikle aþaðýdaki adrese gönderirsen sevinirim

I would like to ask help in getting the words that have addings, like:

eþyalarýmý = eþya + lar + ýmý ? - I can find the meaning of eþya=bagagge but the adding of the rest doesn´t make much sense...

giysimi = giysi + mi?

kitaplarýmý = kitap + lar+ýmý

Pls help so i can understand how the construction of the words are done so i can finally find the correct way to learn this beautiful language.

I´m still just a learner, but I think it looks like this (let´s take "eþyalarýmý" first):

eþya - lar - ým - ý

Step by step:

  • eþya                -> thing, belonging
  • eþya - lar         -> (plural) things, belongings
  • eþya - lar - ým  -> (possessive 1st person singular) my things, belongings
  • eþya - lar - ým - ý  -> "ý" could be an possessive 3rd person suffix, but there is already an possessive suffix added so it can only be an object suffix.

Object suffix means that "my belongings" are an object of some verb - in this case it is "gönderirsen" which means "if you send" = gönder (send) - ir (wide tense: send or will send) - se (if) - n (you). So if there were only "eþyalarýmý gönderirsen" it would mean "if you send my things".

Following words have the same suffixes appended:

giysi (clothing) - m (my) - i (object suffix)

kitap (book) - lar (plural: books) - ým (my) - ý (object suffix)

(and it seems that these are too objects of the same verb, so the meaning is "if you send my things, clothes, books...")

In "giysi" possessive suffix is just "m", not "ým" or "im", because it is already preceded by a vowel.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what "melihinkileri" means - but I hope it will be easier for you now to get the meaning of this sentence.

Thank you Tomac, I m starting to get there...

Are you learning Turkish just in this forum or do you have private lessons? Is there any kind of books I could buy online to help me learn?

Thank you again for your interest.

Personally, I learn almost only from resources available online, like:

Also, there´s very good book "Teach Yourself Turkish" which you can buy, or you can also download it freely (however, as far as I know, without "speaking" parts recorded) from here:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/7070014/Teach-Yourself-Turkish

You can also find some links to other books available online at this topic:

http://turkishclass.com/forumTitle_41388

However I think, that previously mentioned sites (and especially "Teach Yourself Turkish" book) are very good to begin with.

I agree completely tomac!

I think the first 3 are probably the best resources for Turkish beginners, (without access to a teacher or tutor.)

and the dictionary here and at

www.tureng.com
