Quoting accountant

...KADAR :  as much as: yapabildiði kadar

O, yapabildiði kadar yaptý= She did as much as she could

Çiçek bakýldýðý kadar çiçektir : Flowers is flower as much as it cares

Kuþ ötebildiði kadar kuþtur : Bird is a bird as much as it sings

Bebek aðladýðý kadar bebektir : Baby is baby as much as he/she cries

Sen öðrendiðin kadar bllirsin :You know as much as you learn

Sen sevdiðin kadar sevilirsin : You are loved as much as you love

SEn rüya gördüðün kadar yaþarsýn : You live as much as you have dream

Sen verdiðin kadar alýrsýn : You take as much as you give

Sen gördüðün kadar inanýrsýn : You believe as much as you see

Bu yaptýðým çeviriler doðru mu?

Sen verdiðin kadar alýrsýn : You take as much as you give

I think this should be

you get as much as you give (or receive as much as you  give)

My attempt:

ÇÝÇEK SULANDIÐI KADAR GÜZELDÝR;

It is as beautiful as a watered flower

KUÞLAR ÖTEBÝLDÝÐÝ KADAR SEVÝMLÝ;

With as much of my love as birds can sing

BEBEK AÐLADIÐI KADAR BEBEKTÝR

It is a baby as much as a baby cries

VE HERÞEYÝ ÖGRENDÝÐÝN KADAR BÝLÝRSÝN

and will you know as much as everything that you learn. Smile

would it be grammatically correct if I say :

Çiçek bakýldýðý kadar çiçektir : Flowers is as flower as it is  cared for.

Çiçek bakýldýðý kadar çiçektir : Flowers is as flower as it is  cared for.

No the grammar is wrong, and so is the sentence structure.

To start: It has to be

A flower is ....or   (The) flowers are....

I think çiçektir translates to ´it is a flower´

I think ´kadar iyidir´ can translate to ´as good as´

and ´kadar güzeldir´ can translate to ´as beautiful as´

because iyi and güzel are adjectives (sýfat) in this case,

but, ´kadar çiçektir´ cannot be ´as flower as´ in English

it is like saying ´kadar arabadýr´ means ´as car as´

which doesn´t make sense in English.

Çiçek bakýldýðý kadar çiçektir

I think translates to: ´the flower will be as good as it is cared for´,

meaning ´that if you look after it, it will be a nice flower"

Thank you Henry. Your comments are much appreciated and helps a lot.

I would also like to add some comments. Your explanations applies for Turkish grammar too. Normally in Turkish also you can not say "kadar çiçektir" because çiçek is not a "sýfat".

but in this poem (I suppose it is quite a famous one) poet uses the words as he likes without obeying the grammar rules.

That is why songs and poems are sometimes very hard to translate to the intended meaning, and literal translations make no sense to learners.
