I always thought that ile with personal pronouns would make benimle, seninle, onunla, etc. However I recently got myself Kenan Doðulu´s Festival CD and he´s singing:

Ne benle ne de bensiz

Ne senle ne de sensiz

Nereye kadar...

I´m wondering, is benle interchangeable with benimle? Is it gramatically correct?

Thanks

No it´s not grammatically correct but that doesn´t mean native speakers don´t use it at all as seen above. It is seen in lyrics frequently probably because of rhyming considerations. This shows that songwriters do not have a good kowledge of Turkish grammar.

Thanks

When used with postpositions, the personal pronouns should be in genitive case (-(n)in suffix) except for 3rd pl person.

Ýçin =for

Ben-im için

Sen-in için

O-nun için

Biz-im için

Siz-in için

Onlar ile (Not onlar-ýn için)

Ýle = with

Ben-im ile

Sen-in ile

O-nun ile

Biz-im ile

Siz-in ile

Onlar ile (Not onlar-ýn ile)

Gibi = like

Ben-im gibi

Sen-in gibi

O-nun gibi

Biz-im gibi

Siz-in gibi

Onlar gibi (Not onlar-ýn gibi)

etc.
