Are there foreigners living in Ankara on this site? I tried looking in internet for any communities but everyone seems to be in Ýstanbul or by the sea. Why Ankara being a capital city is so unpopular?

If anybody on here lives in Ankara as a foreigner, can they tell me a bit how they experience it? I found a job opening in Ankara, but to be honest, never been there! Wonder what it´s like to live there...

i am not a foreigner but i lived in Ankara for 4 years...i am originally from izmir and as a person used to to the sea, i found the city a bit strange at first...Then i started to have many nice friends and had the chance to discover the city... and you know what?? i like ankara now (of course not as much as i like izmir )

i dont know what worries you too much but i will let you know a website:

www.couchsurfing.com

and you will be surprised when you realise that there are too many foreigners in Ankara

cheers,

Kurt

Well I´m an Australian married to an Ankaran girl and we go back to Ankara every year. We are planning on moving there next year.

I find that Ankara is relatively full of foreigners - not surprising given that Ankara is the diplomatic centre of Turkey. I´ve encountered foreigners far more often in Ankara than in Istanbul (excluding the Sultanahmet area, obviously).

Ex-pats are chiefly found in Çankaya and Gaziosmanpaşa. I also don´t think there´s ever been a day when I´ve walked through Tunalı and not heard at least one person speaking English on the street.

In contrast I cannot ever recall hearing English spoken in either Ulus or Kızılay, although you often see local students with study materials for learning English.
