Hiya, I´m Kay. I´ve been visiting Turkey for several years and I´ve picked up a good bit of Turkish over there.  I only know the odd words here and there so I think it would be great to extend my knowledge of Turkish. I hope I stick to it this time Smile..

I was wondering if anyone has any good tips or techniques for learning a language, I´ve already began writing down the information from lessons into a notebook although i don´t feel writing is enough to actually learn it.

I think any continued learning needs some structuring. There are many good free sources to gain your knowledge, both grammar and vocabulary.

You definitely need to hear the language, and have speaking practice.

Someone also needs to correct your pronunciation. For this reason, (especially if you don´t have access to a Turkish person) it is good to do a face to face Turkish Language course.

It takes a long time to build vocabulary, and also a native speaker´s input to suggest which words are more suitable for specific meanings. They know which word is better through constant usage, and dictionaries often can´t differentiate.

If you need suggestions for good textbooks, learning web-sites, or on-line dictionaries just ask.

There are many helpful people on this site who will readily share their knowledge.

Good luck with your learning!   Smile

Hi, I just wanted to add that there is a website www.LiveMocha.com  that is excellent for speaking practice. You can search for and voice chat with people from Turkey, which is a great way to practice pronunciation.  Also, a lot of times, they want to practice English, so it is a great trade-off.  From my experience, Turkish people have always been very kind,  so it is usually no problem finding someone to practice with.
