I am going to Olu Deniz in June for a holiday. I hope to go paragliding but I have heard (or read) that the safety record is not so good! That people have been killed in the past. Does anyone know if this is true and would you trust paragliding in Turkey?

Hi, I was in Turkey last year and went on a jeep safari for the day (I was on a gulet holiday) one of our group wanted to go para gliding but they, the Turkish people who ran the safari advised him against it as did the captain of our boat. They mentioned the people who were killed and having seen them up there it is not surprising. Just remeber if you do decide to try it to make sure your insurance covers you for it and dont rely on any that you are offered as an incentive to book the trip. have a great time I'm sure you will or should i say iyi tatiller!

i have been to turkey for the past 4 years all of which i have spent in hisaronu, only a few minutes away from olu deniz and i have been para gliding twice. i have never felt worried when doing this as i was told very differently. i was told that in turkey the paragliding is some of the best in europe. when me and my family went gliding there are mats placed along the beach and we where told that if they miss the landing mats then we get the flight for free, unfortunately they landed on the mats i have also been on the jeep safari's and they were fun but not as good as the paragliding. mistakes can happen but i only know of 2 deaths due to paragliding in turkey and one was an instructor on his own when he was training for a fall, it was his back-up shoot that failed him, but that was years ago. dont be afraid and if anything bad happens please let me know about it, because it will be a shock to me............i say go for it, have a great time xxxx

If anything bad happens to me I doubt if I will be able to let you know lol

I have been paragliding before - in France and it is a great experience.

Grateful for the opinions and I shall consider it carefully before venturing!

I didn't do it in the end as I had torn my achiles whilst running! But will be back next year and will definitely have a go then.
