TARKAN ROCKS LEFKOÞA
An estimated 10,000 people from Kýbrýs, the Turkish mainland and the south side congregated at the Atatürk Stadium on Saturday to see the charismatic king of Turkish pop and no-one was disappointed!
The concert kicked-off, predictably late, with an hour long performance by Atiye Deniz whose dancing, I am reliably informed by my other half, rivals that of Shakira! Among the songs she performed were Don’t Think and Salla.
At the end of her set the excitement increased and the good-natured crowd started chanting for Tarkan but we had to wait for the stage to be cleared and set-up for him. It was well worth the wait. He appeared on stage to the music of ‘Vay anam vay!’ with a new look hairstyle and his performance set the mark for the rest of the evening. His dancing as good and energetic as ever; so energetic that he had 5 shirt changes! His songs, some old, some remixes and newer had the crowd singing and dancing along with him. The song list, too long to itemise, included Dedikodu, Bounce, Dudu, Þýkýdým, Pare Pare, Bu Gece, Kuzu Kuzu, Þýmarýk, and my favourite, the classic Asýk Veysel song Uzun Ince bir Yoldayým; 24 songs in all, running to nearly 2 hours which passed all too quickly.
All in all a brilliant evening. Even my partner, who previously was not a Tarkan fan is now. He thoroughly enjoyed himself dancing and singing along with everyone else!

Unfortunately my camera chose this evening to play up. I have 5 more of Tarkan and 3 of Atýye (my apologies for their quality). I also have some better quality short video clips, 6 of Tarkan and 1 of Atiye. I can send them to you and anyone who would like to see them
