my boyfriend wants to visit england for a holiday. he has sent his application to the consulate. but someone has told him that he will need a large amount of money in his account. evan after he has paid the £250 for his application. has anyone known someone who has applied for holiday visa and what it actually intails.

Yep, he needs to have much money in his bankaccoutn as a proove he is financially capable of taking care of himself in case anything happens like a car-accident or something. But if he doesn't have enough money, you can fill in a form in which you declare that you will cover all the financial costs in case anything happens. You should ask the consulate or your city counsil for a paper. At least, it works like this in Holland.

In england, if you intend to sponsor his trip (ie undertake to cover his costs, you must provide evidence to support your undertaking) - see my essays about visa applications and I have prepared a sort of fact sheet to help you if you want it I can email it to you if you give me your address.
