good News for those who have been beaten. At last the donkey Sudan has come!

hehe-I thought it was ´the donkey came from the water!´

I´ve just checked at tureng.com - there is a phrase:

Birisini eşek sudan gelinceye kadar dövmek

which is translated as:

Kick the natural stuffing out of someone

There are other translations as well:

Maybe "sudan" means here "from water"... but could "sudan geldi" mean simply "came from the water" ? Or does "geldi" have some other meaning here ?

That makes sense However, that sentence from tureng.com sounds a bit strange for me, it looks like "to beat someone until the donkey comes from the water" ... Maybe it is some turkish saying or play on words...

 Great. Thanks. I tried to find a phrase, like sesli sözlük, but when not finding one I went for the literal translation.

Since the phrase is "to beat someone until the donkey comes out of the water",

it would make sense to be "good news for those being beaten: the donkey is finally coming out of the water"

When water sources were far away from a dry village, one of the youngsters used to take donkeys of all villagers to far fountains every day, fill containers with water and lead the donkeys back. This was usually a day long chore; the caravan started out in the early hours of the day and returned at dusk.

BEATING SOMEONE TILL DONKEY COMES FROM WATER (from fetching water) therefore indicates the beating took the full daylight hours of a day.
