im a little confused about this, i know it means 'don't throw' but i hear turkish people say it quite a lot in a obviously different context eg when theres nothing to throw etc, so i was wondering what else it can mean? it sounds like they say it when someone is annoying them but i thought maybe they would just say yapma?

Atmak
- dont throw..
- ~Don't lie
- ~Don't boast
- ~Don't brag
- ~Don't do
- ~Don't say that..

example :
+ i invented the lamb
- atma şimdi

+ this ferrari is mine
- atma you're not that rich to buy that one.

so : if it's clear that the speaker is lying or speaking without meaning or trying to show himself/herself the best. you can use " atma " ..
