Can and May modal verbs are  always ebilir or abilir in Turkish after verbstem.

Regard ebilir or abilir as modal verbs like can or may

In turkish, there is no can or may difference. Its meaning is understood from context.

 

Ben............... im = I

Sen................sin= You (singular)

O..................      = (He- She It)

Biz................. iz = We

Siz................. siniz = You (Plural)

Onlar.............lar = They

 

 

Gel-mek = To Come

 

 

Ben gel ebilir im = I can come/I may come

Ben ......im = I

gel             = come

ebilir          = can/may

 

Var-mak = To arrive

 

Sen var abilir sin = You can arrive/ You may arrive

Sen.......sin = You

var             = arrive

abilir           = can/may

 

Gülmek = To laugh

 

For question form add only mi

Sen gül ebilir mi sin? = Can/May you laugh?

 

 

Siz koş abilir mi siniz? = Can You run / May you run?  

 

 

Darf, darfst, dürfen, dürft, Kann, kannst, Können, Könnt sind nur ebilir oder abilir nach dem verbstamm in Türkisch.

 

 

Ben............... im = Ich

Sen................sin= Du

O..................      = (Er -sie-Es)

Biz................. iz = Wir

Siz(ler)................. siniz = Ihr

Onlar.............lar = Sie

 

Gel-mek = Kommen (gel! ist komm!)

Ben gel ebilir im = Ich kann kommen/I darf kommen

Ben ......im = Ich

gel             = komm

ebilir          = Kann/darf

 

Koşmak = rennen

 

Sen koş abilir sin = Du kanst rennen / Du darfst rennen

 

Für Frage Formen nur mi

 

Yürümek = Laufen

 

Sen yürü (y) ebilir mi sin? = Kannst du laufen?  (y ist für) Zwei vokale können nicht mitkommen
