Antalya Gets Ready For Total Solar Eclipse

OZISIK: ''WE EXPECT 1 MILLION TOURISTS TO COME TO ANTALYA TO WATCH THE ECLIPSE ON MARCH 29TH''

ANTALYA - ''We expect nearly 1 million tourists to come to southern city of Antalya to watch the total solar eclipse on March 29th, 2006,'' Dr. Tuncay Ozisik, one of the experts of the Scientific & Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK)'s National Observatory said on Monday.

''The total solar eclipse will be seen in a line extending from Brazil to Mongolia. In Turkey, we will be able to watch it within an area of 160 sq.km from Antalya to northern city of Ordu for four minutes. Antalya will be the best place to watch the solar eclipse. Therefore, we expect nearly 1 million tourists and eclipse chasers from around the world to come to Antalya,'' he said.

Ozisik said that TUBITAK National Observatory will install telescopes in Akdeniz University campus and in Manavgat town of Antalya.

He added that following solar eclipses could be watched from Turkey on April 30TH, 2060 and September 3rd, 2081.
