what does takmiyor mean?

as is kadin gozluk takmiyor?

Woman is not wearing glasses?

Goes it have to do with something you add to the end of a verb to mean "not"

like de- (in english)  e.g. mystify versus demystify.

e.g. giymiyor

versus giyiyor

does the second one mean wearing and the first mean not wearing?

thanks

Takmak means to attach, fasten, affix, put (something) on; to pin (something) to; to hang (something) on.

And takmak also means  to pick on, single (someone) out for harassment

what does takmıyor mean?

as is kadın gözlük takmıyor

The woman is not putting on glasses

Does it have to do with something you add to the end of a verb to mean "not"?

Yes, to make any verb negative you add the ´me/ma´ suffix.

It gives a similar meaning to ´not´.

Takmak = to put on or attach (something)

Tak + ıyor = takıyor (he/she is putting on ....)

Tak + ma + ıyor = takmıyor (he/she is not putting on .....)

like de- (in english)  e.g. mystify versus demystify. No, simply like ´not´ in English.  Smile

e.g. giymiyor

versus giyiyor

does the second one mean wearing and the first mean not wearing? Correct

thanks

Hope this helps you understand further Smile

This is a good example of how we use words in English differently from Turkish.

In English you wear glasses or wear jewellery.

In Turkish you attach glasses or attach jewellery.

As with any language, a learner does not just have to learn the translation for each word, but how and where they are used.

Interestingly enough, if someone has new clothes you would usually say "güle güle giyin" - like enjoy wearing them. But with new glasses or jewellery you wouldn´t usually hear "güle güle takın" but "güle güle kullanın" - use them
