To use ´was´ as in making a statement about something is it simply a case of adding the correctly vowel-harmonised and consonant-mutated version of ´di´ to an adjective? ie

hava güzeldi - the weather was good

I have also noticed that a ´y´ buffer character is used in

hava kötüydü - the weather was bad

but not in

hava kötüdür - the weather is bad. What is the reason for that? Also why is it not necessary to say ´havayı´ for the weather when presumably you would have to say

yemeği güzeldi for ´the food was good´ rather than yemek güzeldi

how beautiful she was  -  ne kadar güzeldi...

how happy you were -  ne kadar mutluydun...

she was an angel from above ... o bir melekti...

those were the days ...ne günlerdi...

it was fascination ı know -  o büyülüydü biliyorum...

ı was going to work that time - ben o zaman işe gidiyordum..

ı wish ı was there - keşke orada olsam

she was ill - hastaydı

she was glad to see you - seni gördüğü için memnundu...

she was unhappy - mutsuzdu

you cannot imagine how happy she was - ne kadar mutlu olduğunu hayal edemezsin...

Be careful - in some cases, it is appropriate to use the story past tense with nouns: -(y)miş.
