As the subject header is trying to say, this is a sentence from a story about Nasrettin Hoca:

«Sevgili Hocamız, niçin böyle eşeğe ters binerek rahatsız oluyorsunuz?»

While I understand the content of the sentence clearly enough, I wonder if the construction can be carried over to other subjects directly, like for instance:

«Niçin böyle yaparak beni rahatsız ediyorsunuz?»

«Why are you doing this? You are making me uncomfortable.»

...*or*...

«Niçin böyle oturarak rahatsız oluyorsun?»

«Why are you sitting like that? It is so uncomfortable.»

My problem is that I want to read «niçin» as interrogating about why Hoca is uncomfortable, but it is clear from the translation in the book that it should be interpreted as being a question about why he is mounting his horse that way.

Correction of translations greatly appreciated if needed.

Sevgili Hocamız, niçin böyle eşeğe ters binerek rahatsız oluyorsunuz?

The unerlined part is an adverbal clause. It would still be meaningful without it.

Sevgili Hocamız, niçin  rahatsız oluyorsunuz?

Dear Hoca, why do you make yourself uncomfortable?

Now adding the adverbial clause:

Sevgili Hocamız, niçin böyle eşeğe ters binerek rahatsız oluyorsunuz?

Dear Hoca, why do you make yourself uncomfortable by sitting backward on the donkey?

Similarly:

Niçin rahatsız oluyorsun? Why do you make yourself uncomfortable?

Niçin böyle oturarak rahatsız oluyorsun? Why do you make yourself uncomfortable by sitting like that?

Quoting deli

isn`t it, by mounting the donkey backwards

It can also be used for "sitting". Making yourself uncomfortable implies "sitting".

Most enlightening! As always, you are the man, si++! Sorry for the late reply, I have been busy with other stuff lately (my mathematics thesis makes me have to forget about Turkish sometimes, otherwise I will never get it done...)

But thanks!!!
