It is not the distance (in) our eyes by itself, it was also bitter/painful (that) we couldn’t risk closeness.

My attempt as a learner. Wait for corrections Smile

 IT is not only the distance of our eyes, it is also  intimacy   of  our eyes  which  we couldn`t   receive/ capture

Thank you Henry and Deli, but how should I understand this exactly? as if we can´t see each other for long? or as if we can´t see each other the same way as we did before?

There is not "ki" there, there cannot be.

 

Gözlerimizi yalnız uzaklıklar değil, göze alamadığımız yakınlıklar da acıtır.

 

It is not just the distances that hurt our eyes but also the closenesses that we do not dare (to go).

 

It does not mean a lot, but it is something like this.
