Visiting Egypt on Turkish Passport

Hi all,

I have a quick and hopefully simple question which I´d appreciate answering.

My girlfriend (Turkish) and I (British) and visiting Cairo this New Year.

As a British National, I´m only allowed into Cairo (as well as many other countries) if my passport has more than 6 months left before it expires.

My girlfriends passport runs out in March 2011, yet she tells me as a Turkish National the same "6 month" ruling doesn´t apply.

Can someone confirm whether this is correct or not please?

I´m literally about to book the holiday but am worried in case our holiday is canceled or she is refused entry because her passport won´t have 6 months on it when we arrive in Cairo in December 2010.

Many thanks.

Jason

Why not just get a 1 year renewal before you go, just to be on the safe side?  They will just add the one year onto the existing passport so it is valid until March 2012.  And Turkish passport renewal fees were just reduced as I remember.

Thanks for your reply

Didn´t know Turkey issued a renewal on passports like that so that´s certainly an option.

Thank you again.

Sorry, just to further this....

Where can my girlfriend extend her passport?

Does she have to do it in Turkey (at the airport) or can she do it when she retuns to the UK?

Will she keep the same passport number if she extends it?

Thanks,

They keep the same passport; it´s just a new page that gets stamped in their existing passport.  Not sure if it can be done in the UK or at a Turkish airport.  I think it has to be sent in somewhere and it takes 2-3 days for the new stamp.  I am having the same issue; trying to find out if my husband´s passport can be renewed at the embassy here in Canada, or if he has to send it back to Turkey to have this done.  The Turkish embassy in Canada hasn´t been too quick in answering my inquiries.  I´ll ask my husband where he got his previous extension and will write further when I find out.

Renewal can only be done via Turkish Embassies in foreign countries as far as I know.

JanetteO and Armegon,

Thank you very much for your answers, and what you´re both saying makes perfect sense.

Will ask my girlfriend to contact the Turkish Embassy here in London to extend it.

Again, my sincere thanks.

Sory to reply a little late but yes she does have to. It´s not about the Turkish passport or about the passport holder at all. it´s about country you are travelling to - Egypt in this case - and it´s regulations. Most countries have this 6 month policy but not all do. But Egypt is one of them.
