since we follow the SOV subject-object-verb rule...does this not also make sense:

kedi mutfakta var ie.

[a] cat (subject) - in [the] kitchen - there is (verb)

??

Turkish is free word order language. All the permutations (6 for the above case) would be understandable. But the the following 2 sound better than remainings to me.

Mutfakta kedi var

Kedi var mutfakta

So I think "kedi var" should be treated as a unit and number of permutations becomes 2.

 Can we say in english : cat kitchen is at ?

In Turkish, as it is a synthetic language, you can change the word order without changing the meaning:

Brutus Sezar´ı öldürdü

Sezar´ı Brutus öldürdü

Sezar´ı öldürdü Brutus

Brutus öldürdü Sezar´ı

Öldürdü Brutus Sezar´ı

Öldürdü Sezar´ı Brutüs
